Dotfiles

These are my dotfiles managed simply with jj.

Initializing

Run from $HOME:

echo "/*" > .gitignore
echo "gitdir: dotfiles/.git/" > .git
mkdir -p dotfiles/.git/
git --git-dir=dotfiles/.git/ --work-tree=. init
jj git init --colocate

Tracking Files

All files are ignored by default (/*), files to be tracked must be added manually with the ! prefix in $HOME/.gitignore:

/*

!dir_a/
!dir_b/

!file.txt

To track specific children directories and files one has to ignore the parent and specifically track the children:

/*

!dir/
dir/*
!dir/file.ext
!dir/subdir/

Installing

mkdir -p dotfiles/.git/
git --git-dir=dotfiles/.git/ \
  --work-tree=. clone \
  --recurse-submodules https://codeberg.org/alecsargent/dots-jj
jj git init --colocate

Hiding VCS_INFO in Zsh

See zsh-jj for integration.
